How To Hook Up Electric Brake Controller In Winnebago Adventurer

Topic: Electric Brake Installation Aid
Posted By: Ryanjb01 on 08/02/10 06:48pm Hello,

A friend of mine just purchased a 2010 Hurricane 34B and needs to install an electric restriction controller for his trailer.

The RV has the small circular v wire that does not include the restriction wire from the brake pedal.

My plan is to locate the restriction light switch and tap into information technology and run it dorsum to the new vii wire connector we plan to install.

Is this the "best" way of doing this work? Looking for any ideas/help.

I was surprised to meet that the manufacturer did non use the traditional vii wire connector. kind of silly to cut out such a minor detail.

Thanks once more for the help,

Posted By: Hikerdogs on 08/02/ten 07:30pm If your friends motorhome is congenital on a Ford chassis it's probably already wired for a brake controller. The plug for the controller itself is usually under the dash about the steering column. Compare the plug on the controller or the necessary adaptor to whatever open sockets under the dash. In some cases they're taped to the steering column itself.

Every bit for the connexion to the rear socket, trace the wires currently in the 5 pin socket dorsum to the frame. Ford includes the brake wire as part of the F53 stripped chassis. They ordinarily end the wiring at the stop of the original frame. If it has welded on frame extensions the body manufacturers normally fold the brake wire (a #x light blue wire) back into the original Ford harness and tape it off. Yous will have to add a few anxiety of wire to extend it to either a new half dozen or 7 pivot socket.

In our case it took longer to find the wires than it did to install the controller. The whole job including testing the brakes took less than a couple hours. If the wires are easily accessable the job should take about 1/two an 60 minutes.

Posted Past: Ryanjb01 on 08/02/x 07:43pm Smashing info. Thank you very much.

My original business organization was that information technology only came with the 5 wire connector at the rear of the MH.

I have non fifty-fifty seen the MH yet. We are coming together tomm. am to go it wired. We go out Thursday am for a i.5 week trip to VA Embankment.

I volition wait to come across if there is any wiring under the dash. I accept experience with GM trucks and the wiring of brake controllers on them. I am new to the Ford Chassis. Hopefully they brand things as easy as GM did.

Delight keep the info coming, I will exist looking at it in the am before i get out to help him out.

thanks over again,

Posted By: RRyall on 08/02/10 08:09pm I ran new wire for mine. Information technology only took a few minutes, and I ran ii actress wires with it in case I need any in the future, they are already in. I did find the factory wire last twelvemonth by accident in the dorsum, non sure where it went in the dash. For me information technology was far simpler to merely run it and be done with it.

Cheers everyone for the information. The open connector was under the dash almost the steering cycle. We removed the harness and brake controller from his 2004 F-150 and plugged into the MH.

Then we had to extend the blue brake wire to the rear and install a new 7-pivot connector. The original 1 was a four wire.

All done in most ane hour. All set. Went much easier than I thought it was going to.

Thanks for the aid,

Posted By: wa8yxm on 08/03/10 05:24pm DO not just "Tap into" the brake light wire.. If you exercise this you will most likely pop the brake light fuse and what is worse it will fully lock the trailer brakes the second y'all touch the pedal.. This could cause the trailer to pass your tow vehicle

Put a Tekonsha P-3 betwixt that brake calorie-free pb adn the seven-pin connector.. Properly adapted.. information technology will apply only plenty brakes to cease the trailer.

I did non "tap" into any wire. I used an aftermarket harness to a brake controller and had the extend the restriction wire nearly 3 anxiety to the new connector.
